When I typed the tittle, I felt like putting Super What? because the console is Super Nintendo, this console was a true heart in the gaming industry with it's very own mascot Mario, similar idea to Sega's Sonic, and Sony's Crash Bandicoot, which did not take a place anywhere near as Mario. The console was Cartridge based, and lived on, it is a fact that the console used Super FX in Cartridges, Starwing, this was an absolute treasure to play, and playable, fun and exciting game, the sounds were great, the controls was spot on, infact the game itself was bundled with the console eventually, bit like the Mario pack and the many other bundles, but the most effective bundle was Starwing and Mario pack.
The console's name was Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The facts:

Next Model: Nintendo 64
Nintendo was going in with Sony's Playstation console but ended up in separate directions. Nintendo's 64 console and Sony's Playstation. However besides the point. The SNES went through many designs including the controller, until they finally settled for the way the console was for launch in 1992 for Europe ? could be wrong. The games were great, you had, Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, Shaq-Fu, Killer Instinct, Street Fighter 2, Starwing, infact this console had such great games that I enjoyed playing on till late at night on Micro Machines, still found it hard trying to avoid those snooker balls on that table. Ah memories.
The console in Japan had online services, which USA and Europe did not see. Oh look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Nintendo_Entertainment_System for the concept designs before they settled down to what we now know the SNES.
As you may know the console is a 32-Bit based console, it allowed better graphics, faster gameplay, infact it had such a great response, that Sega struggled a bit with they Sega Mega Drive 2 and Sega CD, but let's not be put of with Cartridges...yet, well Nintendo still use Cartridge media today, even though they are memory card media today, but still the same type of principle, we are talking Nintendo's DS console. Back to SNES, Killer Instinct was a great way to show of the console, the introduction to the game, with the gold coloured logo, then Nintendo's logo shinning up the screen, lovely, then the tittle and the music, nice, it get's better with the deep voice saying "Killer Instinct" you must play the game or watch a video on youtube to see for yourself, it will be worth listening alone. The way Nintendo's logo came on the screen and disappeared on Killer Instinct was nice and smooth, I loved this game,. There a high demand for the console, infact I prefered this console purely because of the games catalogue, and the magazines were great, it was a true kid's console and also met the need for adult gameplay as well. The console supported more colours than NES and the sound was an absolute massive improvement. The whole console was a big improvement over the NES, but let's not forget how great the NES was as well shall we, the post will be coming up soon.

Arcade
Hello fans, do you remember the amount of money spent in arcade machines, and the amount of game over's? or maybe the amount of sheer amount of frustration when the timer counts down and trying to find another quarter/pound/50p, oh yes that has happened to me, sometimes too close to that 1 second left, when playing Chase HQ that was always a tough play when I was a kid. I use to use my turbo's when I got the run away driver, well then there was that 10 hits you need before you catch that criminal, well that does not sound too hard, it is when you are a kid and trying to turn left and right, and get distracted when other sounds in the local amusement were going of. I got there in the end and about £7 later out of pocket - ouch! never mind still fun.

Outrun 1986 if I am correct. Sega produced an excellent game there. I loved the way that you could choose your own route, and drive a Ferrari, and pick out of 3 songs, that good enough for me at the time. Outrun Full Completion under 5 minutes video found on youtube as a demonstration http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZmnMgjEgeQ you can see for yourself the routes you can choose, the high level of detail, and let's not forget about his girlfriend, who slaps him when you crash, ah comedy, pure classic. Outrun, too me sounds great, has great conversions to other formats, CBM64, Sega Master System, Gameboy Advance, Sega Saturn (Sega Ages) Shenmue 2 (Xbox, Dreamcast) Sega Mega Drive, Spectrum, Amstrad, Atari ST, Amiga ( I think) and to be honest it covered pretty much all formats, DOS included later down the line, then MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator). This game was great at the time along with Hang-On, Space Harrier, Hard Drivin' Rad Mobile, later on. Then the great Virtua Racing, Daytona USA, Virtua Figher 1 & 2, then Tekken series, the list of great games in the amusements are endless.
The list of endless games now available on MAME, you can Google the roms, the emulator you can find the latest on Google, and also I do recommend MAME32 that is the GUI (Graphical User Interface) version, instead of command line type, but if you are advance with computers then download the latest MAME, and then find the games you want, you then can play on your computer without needing to spend another quarter/50p/£1 but the games are older, no new games for the emulator, it does emulate model 2 games, but not very well, and model 3 is certainly a bad attempt, as the emulator is simply not advanced enough for that...yet, however it is a great emulator for even a low end PC, and a low end computer these days has great graphics card, you do not need a big graphics card or even a massive processor to play MAME, I was able to on an old Prescott Intel Pentium 4 1.7GHz computer, and even on an Toshiba M40x, and Dell Insprion 1300, so there you have it, you can now play games on your computer without worrying, unless you want to play DDR (Dancing Stage) then you will need a higher end pc, more middle end pc in todays standards.
Quick note, MAME allows Namco, Sega, Nintendo and many other amusement video games to be played on the emulator, just make sure you create a rom folder, or if it is there, do not extract the rom, keep it as it is. Also 5 is credit and 1 is play. Most of the time on keyboard you will need spacebar, CTRL, shift and Alt keys and UP, Down, Left, Right keys, as well as A S D F Z X C V keys, please keep note, unless you use Mouse for trackball games like Ataxx, now that is a great game, I actually still play the game, and I love the music on the game too.

Hello there RGUK fans, welcome to your coffee break, or tea
break, or just a day at the computer reading retro, classic, nothing better
than revisiting the past, and remember the joyful games, and in some cases the
worst game played as well. We are now in 1982, big boom box tape players, bmx bikes? big warm headphones, bit of top music, bit of nibbles and classic films or maybe a night in with the wife? or maybe just maybe spend some time with the Commodore 64, on a summers night, ah yes, it is August 1982 the time Commodore 64 was released upon us, is this the year we never forget, is it still 1982? Yes it is! Come follow me through a classic journey, and lets remember the 1982 classic computer.
We are here today to enjoy the Commodore 64, good old tapes,
big floppy add on, wow nice, oh lets not forget the colour (color) screen you
can use with built in speakers really nice. I personally preferred the sound on
the Commodore 64 because of the SID chip, made the times fly, remember the

The loading times was worth it for most of the games, listening to SID music whilst the game loads, you also have game tittle graphics to go along with the music whilst the picture loaded. When the CBM 64 came out out you could hook the computer to a television or to the monitor that you could buy separately. Of course the monitor was the better option, with a 3-pin connection, yellow, red and white cables (video, left and right signal outputs) the built in speakers on the Commodore monitor was also a great addition to the monitor, you could even control the volume on the monitor as well, now that was technology. The Commodore 64 is still out there with a new entry Commodore 64x, which you can find here at http://www.commodoreusa.net/CUSA_C64.aspx or visit Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commodore_64x The Commodore 64x is a new way of computing with the similar type of keys spring release style, keeping the retro feel as it should be. However the barebones and the Commodore 64x is a more for the less on the budget type of wallet, unless Santa can provide you with a friendly surprise of the new Commodore 64x then I am out of luck as well. The Commodore 64x is the same shape, the power LED has been replaced with a Power Button, it has a built-in DVD Drive slim, Intel Atom CPU, most of the computer you can upgrade, it can even handle Windows 7, now all you need is a nice monitor, mouse and the operating system and away you go. Even if you do not feel you need Windows 7, there is a new alternative, can you guess I mentioned the date in an earlier post, 11/11/2011 Commodore OS Vision, oh my g, that is a nice bit of software, based on Linux, so no virus problems there, you can add applications to the os.
Enough drooling over the Commodore 64x now lets drool over the original CBM64 if you got a disk drive then why not have a fancy at Turbo Outrun, when the disk has loaded listen to the tittle music, it is lovely, infact record it and have a listen at a slightly higher volume, do not forget your next door fellow people with the volume, as it is a nice track, the game itself is nice to play. Tape I would recommend a true playable classic BMX Simulator the first 1 not the 2nd version, and also Paper Boy. Dizzy would not go a miss with the CBM64. When you turn on the CBM you notice the nice blue and light blue colours on the screen, also notice the nice friendly amount of memory as well, have a play with BASIC as well, you be surprised what you can do with Google, and a tape to record the program you created. The Computer is worth the fun. Pick up a piece of music software for the computer and create some nice music on there, it is worth the effort and listen to what you have done, you feel proud of the CBM64, no other computer at the time offered what Commodore 64 had, it was something special, infact I feel it still is. 64k memory and expansion available, nice. External PSU as well instead of built-in now that was a great ideal, thank you Commodore, the only problem getting a second hand CBM64 is that you see some have a slightly yellow coloured case due to the age of the console and condition the console was in, but still the hardware should the most important part, does the computer work as well should be at the top of the list, unless you are a big collector, then your best bet is to look for a nice hardly used CBM64 but still loved computer in original box and the manual, the manuals in most cases should be pretty much great condition, who read the manuals? good guess, I did not read the manuals, I always did the plug the computer in and play, and then find out later if something went wrong :)
Some facts:
During the CMB C64's lifetime, sales totalled between 12.5 - 17 million units popular I would say by those figures.
CBM C64 was the most sold model compared to the rest of the predator computers of Commodore.
Graphics: VIC II - 16 colours, resolution: 320x200.

Hello fans, I am trying to short the posts a little bit, but lets see what happens, I am a chatter box after all :) Today I have setup my small lcd screen and plugged my old PC and Xbox Original (Not 360) in the screen, great day done some work and played a bit today as well as normal households activities that have needs as usual. Gaming I find is a great way to reward yourself.
For the past week I have been on the Playstation 1 (PS1) and today the Xbox Original. So far today I been playing on Forza 1, level 20 with Toyota Celica, lovely to drive, but really do I need to take of my upgrades when riding in a mid power car for a mid power race, when I like full power, nice sounding engine not over revving, just a normal race....hmm lets think not seca usa ouch, in Level 20 it is a pain in the... you can imagine being again a Ferrari, Corvette C6, now that is interesting, I still beat them I rarely loose at racing games, I have an eye for racing. I drive in Manual TCS off but more fun to power around the corners when in need, especially that test track on Level 20. The game is harder to play as well because I own an OEM controller, the original broke when putting carpet down, long story, but shortened not my fault that the cable split, the sensitivity on this controller makes driving hard to fun, and sometimes can actually be useful.
For Ps1 I been using a PS2 contoller original on it for racing games. The games I have played this week:
Bust-A-Move 3DX, Overboard, Tekken 3, Toca 2, Who wants to be a millionaire 2nd edition (not as good as 1st edition I think) Ridge Racer Type 4, Rapid Racer, Rage Racer, Spyro 2, Crash 3, Actual Pool, Destruction Derby 2, No Fear Downhill Mountain Biking, the No Fear is a great game, my advice do not use Analogue on the river level, because you need to get the speed up, but break on a straight not on corners as you fall straight into the river, the graphics and the sounds are great. The game itself I found locked into, I loved everything about it, I use R1 for rear breaks and L1 for front breaks, X for Acc, left Analogue stick in some cases for steering. For accessories I am after a JogCon controller for the PS1 for extra fun. For Xbox Shenmue 2 again, as the first disc is missing. I enjoy the consoles and games from the past.
If you fancy a blast get the PS hardware, but if you fancy it on PC, get a PS Controller to USB converter then plug the original PS controller into it for the ultimate feel. I use one myslf and it is great for MAME as well as Sega Mega Drive emulation. Fusion for Sega Mega Drive is great, and for Playstation ePSXe emulator I prefer version 1.8 with bios file 7502 or 9002 not the 1001/1002 as I find it a bit buggy at times. Min spec, 128mb graphics can be onboard turn of V-Sync, CPU Intel Pentium 4 I recommend for min, or AMD Athlon 1.8GHz memory 512MB, onboard sound welcome, maybe a CD Drive, ISO drive, controller specs are for epsxe. For Fusion you need a min of Windows 2000 I recommend, for error free operation, most onboard graphics cards, Nvidia 16mb min, 256mb ram, onboard sound, rom folder to load the games, and controller. I recommend Windows 2000 Pro min Windows XP for retro gaming is great, Windows Vista and Windows 7 has some problems with plug-ins with epsxe. A full guide to follow up soon, specs may need to be adjusted, but is a simple guide, you can get away with Direct X 8 and 9. Defrag your computer weekly and get rid of those cluttered files and your PC should be a lot better. Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Defragmenter then click on the default drive, and click defrag. This helps if your computer is running slow. Still Delayed?
Dear RGUK fans,
Firstly I am sorry for the very long wait but the wait is over as the blogs will be flooding back this week. At last I bet you thinking, there will be a lot more posts and more frequent as the time goes on, so you can relax because we have the Retro news for you, just typing it all up and then posting will be ready soon before you know it.

I do also wish for a Sega Dreamcast in the stocking, or maybe Super Nintendo, or maybe a Nintendo 64, ah classics. Well I got some news for you....
A couple days ago, I managed to pick up a Sony Playstation 1 console (Grey) fat version, is it the 7002 model, from a local second hand shop. Great my initial thoughts were, original console, original grey Analogue not the Dual Shock version, as there is a difference between the two, I will post pics once I can get hold of one, unless a visitor to RGUK would like to donate a free picture of the difference, please as this would be greatful, your name can be mentioned for your work if you wish. Anyway the only thing....no box, but what can you expect for £7.99. When I got home I plugged it into my Samsung 32" HD LED TV perfect, now turn it on, lovely picture lovely start up sound, check the menu, and SoundScope as well, lens great. Now the testing begins, a CD-R game that booted, that surprised me, so here I am thinking it was a normal console, no mods, and yet it has a modchip. Well that is not a problem to me as I like to backup my games, to prevent scratches to the original disc. Also it is a great opportunity to use my Net Yaroze discs and Access Card as well.
For a little while been busy with my 5 months old daughter and trying to find a PC that will keep me going until I build my AMD PC next year. I did get a PC but that went wrong, so now using my old trustworthy Compaq D500 on Windows XP Pro, perfect for some retro emulating and Magazine making.
Now the final most important part the Retro Gamez UK magazine, is delayed but there is no worries, because it should be ready before the end of the year, maybe smaller then expected as the PC and the backup lost a lot of my work, so having to start over yet again. What would you like to see in the magazine, comments are welcome, the more information and support for the magazine the better it will be for you to read, high quality free magazine for our visitors. Fingers crossed this little Compaq D500 keeps going strong, touch wood!

Firstly I am sorry for the very long wait but the wait is over as the blogs will be flooding back this week. At last I bet you thinking, there will be a lot more posts and more frequent as the time goes on, so you can relax because we have the Retro news for you, just typing it all up and then posting will be ready soon before you know it.

Delayed Blogs
To all visitors of Retro Games UK, firstly I would like to apologise for not Blogging new stuff, and the long awaiting posts as well, I will soon be back. The reason is that our house is having a transformation, and so is the computer equipment as well. The computer I was using and the setup is having "Freeze" problems, which is annoying at the best of times, so re-building the computer as well as building another older computer for the time been. There is a document server for myself to store all the retro video games stuff for the blog website, ie; pictures of consoles, games and screen-shots of the games running. Once all the computer equipment is up and running and the pictures are scanned and videos produced, I would think that Retro Gamez UK will be a much more improved Blog-site. Sega Saturn 1996
In 1995 Sega Saturn was released in Europe and North America on July 8th. 5 Great tittles was released along with the console's release. The tittles were Virtual Fighter, World Soccer, Daytona USA, Panzer Dragon, and Pebble Beach Golf. Deep Fear was the last licensed game to be released in 1998. In 1998 the Sega Saturn was succeeded by the Sega Dreamcast. A quick list of games released in 1996 as follows. 3D Lemmings, Actua Golf, Actua Soccer, Andretti Racing, Area 51, Sega Touring Car Championship. These are just a few tittles that were released later in 1996. Now I am not going to spoil it by giving out a major list of games released for Sega Saturn at the moment, as more posts will be on Retro Gamez UK blogsite soon, so please keep a check out for Sega Saturn Games posts in the near future. Also will be included in Retro Gamez UK official magazine soon to be released in November if all goes well. Issue #1 will be floating around the Internet, I will post the details nearer the time, so you can put the date in your Calendar.
Sega Saturn sold a total 9.5 million units worldwide. Sega Saturn was popular in Japan but struggled to survive due to the Nintendo 64 console and Sony's Playstation 1 console. As you know Sega Saturn is a 32-bit console. The graphics at the time was a massive improvement over Sega's Mega CD / Sega CD add-on featuring, 2x Hitachi RISC processor's, 2x Custom VDP processors, 1 for sprites/polygons and the other for backgrounds and video out. 1x Custom System Control Unit, 1x Motorola 68EC000 sound controller, and finally 1x Yamaha FH1 DSP sound processor known as Saturn Custom Sound Processor. Now that is all the processors that is inside of the beast. As you can see Saturn's way of displaying graphics was a lot different to the way Playstation's hardware handled graphics. Also with Sega's double speed CD-Rom drive, the games ran more smoothly. Sega Rally Championship was a great example of this with great car details and track details. Infact I noticed that with Sega Rally Championship you can see the driver and also see through the windows, where as with Gran Turismo on Sony's Playstation 1 the windows were not see through, or transparent as you may call it.
You may not know this, but there was a difference in Graphics for example Sega Rally 1 (to short the tittle) Arcade vs Saturn Graphics. The way AM2 was able to provide better graphics for Arcade use, where as with the Saturn the graphics was very close, through with Sega was able to port the game much more easily compared to let's say Playstation 1. The code for both games was re-written and the track details had to match, but only certain differences were noticeable. More details on Retro Gamez UK in the future.
By 1996 the console was established but nowhere as near as Sony's Playstation 1, even the Nintendo 64 did not come close to Playstation 1, okay I am a big fan of Playstation 1, but only for a few reasons, the console was nice to use, the Analogue controller was a great way to play games in a new style. Infact I remember having to buy a new controller for my Playstation due to Ape Escape coming out, and as you know the game did not operate without Analogue.

Sega Mega CD 2 1992
Yes you read right you are travelling back again to 1992, it is not a typo, this is 1992 at heart. In 1992 Sega Mega CD was released in North America, whilst Europe had to wait until April 19 and the same with Australia in 1993. 6 million units were sold. This was the only CD-ROM add-on release for Sega Mega Drive, there was two versions of Sega Mega CD, the 1st and the 2nd release of Sega CD / Mega CD. However this system was a great way of playig Music CD's through Television speakers, not only that it is still Stereo sound, it was great listening to music through the system. I will mention this even though it is annoying, but I managed to play Sonic CD through the music player built into the Mega CD, problem is there is a warning on the sound track, saying that it may cause damage to the speakers, well I did not listen, and quiet rightly so, because the music soundtrack on the video game, was amazing, however you have to wait for the Sega Mega CD 2 1993 post, as the game was released in 1993.
Oh I must not forget to mention The Sega Aiwa compact hfi as mentioned in the Sega Mega Drive 1992 post, it can play Mega CD video games, as well as the cartridge.
Imagine the Mega-CD just being delivered to your door, you open the box, and find the console box, and says on the front Road Avenger, well you must be thinking wow what is this, you must feel like a big kid at Christmas opening a Christmas present, well it certainly does feel like it. So once all the console is unpacked and you find the console add-on Mega-CD, you take out the clip on the right hand side of the Sega Mega Drive 2 console, and remove the red plastic part as well, connect the add-on and plug the 2nd transformer into the wall, and of you go, turn the Mega Drive 2 on, load the game, oh don't forget the controllers and a refreshment drink, you going to need it. Road Avenger, what a release for 1992, I must admit the quality of the video intro on the game was grainy, but was such as lovely video, that I had to wait again to watch it over again and again 3 more times then I decided to give it a spin, and wow, it was not what I was expecting with the controls you need to watch and wait for the command on screen, don't think this is Gran Turismo, it is far different and in such a way too. Type Road Avenger (Sega CD) into youtube and watch the video, you see what I mean. It does bring back great memories, I do have the lyrics to the intro as well, I find it such a great song. So when you press start you get going and wait for the commands, ie right, left, turbo, brake, gas. You see it was and still a great game. Quick list of games for 1992, After Burner III, Aisle Lord, Chuck Rock, Cobre Command, Hot Hits, Kris Kross: Make My Video, Lunar: The Silver Star, Night Trap, Power Factory Featuring C&C Music Factory, Tenbu: Mega CD Special. There is a lot of where this game from.
However some say this was Sega's first mistake, but to be honest it was a games console that people did buy and did play and did remember. Comment to say what you remembered the most.

Sega Mega Drive 2 1992
Here is a little treat for you. Sega Mega Drive 2 back in the day of 1992, we are going to tell you the specifications of the Sega Mega Drive 2, how to emulate the Sega Mega Drive 2 on PC, and not forgetting the awesome games that came out in 1992 and after 1992. The 16 Bit console. Well it is basically a Genesis 2. So no headphone jack, but stereo sound is on this super machine, cool. Must admit the PAL version does look and the North American version does look great, and so does the Japanese version but not a fan of the switch for the power button. Since 1992 there has many different clones, or types of Sega Mega Drive, such as Tectoy Mega Drive 4 that came out in August 2009 allows the gamer to use MP3 files, and has 87 built-in games, but really does this match up to the original Sega Mega Drive 2, nope, simply because the original is always better in my eyes, you know the hardware, you the gamer knows what the console can and can not do, classic examples are certain came are not compatible with Blaze's Mega Drive release. The expansion slot it also important to me as it allows the user to add-on the Sega Mega CD / Sega CD. A great release that Sega and Aiwa teamed up to bring was this compact hifi unit called Sega Aiwa CSD GM-1 you should be able to find a video on youtube, called Sega Aiwa CSD GM-1 playing Sonic CD. Now that is a game and a half with the past and future signs, and the special stages, that took the system to the new level.
1992 the year of Sonic 2, now how was the game, great you could push down and press A so tap tap tap that A button then release A, well to be fair A, B, C did the trick, but only when pressing down, and wow you officially faster than the eggman with that machine. Well that is it, no not really, Sonic 2 was and still is a great game, but me with the water level, I did not fancy that much, was a tricky situation I say. Well here is a bit of history of Sonic 2. Sega nicknamed the American and European release date, a Tuesday, Sonic 2sday. It was released in Japan on November 21, 1992. North America and Europe was three days later on November 24 1992. The game sold 6.3 million copies, making Sonic The Hedgehog 2 the best selling video game on the Sega Mega Drive 2. You can play this game on many platforms since release including PC. I will end it there for Sonic The Hedgehog 2 as this is a brief post of games that came out for Sega Mega Drive 2, let's continue the journey and follow me through the year of 1992. Oh and don't forget to bookmark this Blog, or write it down on your hand for future reference, just remember the pen and paper to write it down after writing it down on hand, oh well never mind. You should expect more of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 before Christmas 2011. But right now 1996, no hang on 1992. Right a quick list, The Aquatic Games starring James Pond and the Aquabats, okay next, Batman Returns, Captain American and the avengers, Chase H.Q. II (Super H.Q) Taito, Desert Strike: Return of the Gulf (EA), Double Dragon, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Duel, Test Drive II, Dungeons & Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun, The Flintstones, the list is endless, but you may as well sneak in Golden Axe, Hang-On and Sonic1 whilst you are there, even though the games came out before 1992, there are great games not to be missed.
